From Our Chairman

John Aboud, ChairmanCrime Stoppers Trinidad and Tobago (CSTT) in twenty years has certainly developed into an organization that has been resolute in fulfilling its mandate. Since we set ourselves to be the standard for the anonymous reporting of criminal activity locally in 1999, we have undoubtedly moved positively along this path. This was confirmed in 2016 when an independent study of the organization was commissioned. This study conducted by a well-respected marketing company in Trinidad found that of all the avenues available for reporting criminal activity, CSTT was the most trusted. To achieve this has been no small accomplishment.

Since the inception of our call centre over 500,000 calls have been received. As technology improved, we subsequently introduced the taking of anonymous online tips. With these two systems the identity of no caller has ever been known. As a result, approximately $300,000,000 worth of narcotics have been confiscated and $90,000,000 worth of stolen property has been recovered by the police from these anonymous callers.

The success of our organization has in no small way also been as a result of important partnerships. Chief among these are the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago through the Ministry of National Security. Our private sector partners through the various business chambers and their members have also played an important role over the years. Chief among this has been their representation on the CSTT board.

At CSTT we recognize that the challenge of getting our citizens to have confidence in an anonymous reporting system will continue. This is so especially in an increasingly changing technological world. Therefore, as CSTT continues to improve to deal with the myriad kinds of sophisticated criminal offences, the organization will continue to seek out ways to ensure more avenues are provided that will allow the public to continue to anonymously and safely provide important tips.

On behalf of CSTT, I thank my fellow Directors who over the years have provided comprehensive direction for the organization. I also sincerely thank the management and staff for the commitment shown to achieving our goals. Finally and most importantly, my greatest appreciation goes out to all persons who would have trusted our system over the past 20 years. We look forward to having others partner with us as we make Trinidad and Tobago a safer place.
